Henry Spencer and Sons is a name both Linda Crapper and Ian Wilson have been associated with for over 25 years.
After starting off their careers together at the company, they both went on to earn high achievements in property respectively. Since the age of 18, Ian has lived and breathed the property world, working his way up through the years, starting as an office junior, learning the ropes of valuing and negotiations to branch manager. This naturally led on to becoming sales director for a national house builder covering the Yorkshire region. Meanwhile, Linda acquired the Henry Spencer and Sons name for the business, Ian and Linda’s paths crossed again three years ago when Ian was made a director of the company and they’ve both never looked back. Coming back to his roots in Sheffield, Ian prides himself on knowing the local area that the agency represents like the back of his hand, allowing him to work within the booming market with ease. Between Ian, Sue, and James, they make a very strong team and keep the business running smoothly with new landlords being signed on a daily basis.
All of the Henry Spencer and Sons staff are highly qualified property experts and members of the Association of Residential Letting Agents, (ARLA) and the Property Letting Ombudsman Scheme, which ensures high standards and professionalism. The agency also uses a Government deposit protection scheme which gives their landlords and tenants peace of mind and security.
Landlords have their account with Henry Spencer and Sons fully tailored to their needs and everything is done in house. With the option of a full management service, which includes maintenance of the property where the agency retains a list of trusted local contractors and trades people to ensure that all properties are kept in order, or to just administer the lettings of the property, no job is too big or too small for the team. They have a number of long term clients on their books who have entrusted their properties to be completely managed by the team. They also manage a number sizeable of property portfolios for landlords.
Boasting of a quick turn around when it comes to letting out properties within prime locations, where houses and apartments can go from being viewed, listed and contracts signed, all within a week, Henry Spencer and Sons get the job done efficiently and professionally. In just 14 days all of their 12 new apartments at Kelham Lofts had occupying residents, a great success for all of those involved - especially the landlord.
As the business continued to grow, so did their client’s needs, the demand to branch out became clear and Henry Spencer and Sons set about moving to a high street location in the heart of Sheffield. Their new bespoke premises highlights perfectly their traditional values in a modern world, with original photographs of the Crookes area and an old Henry Spencer and Sons sign displayed with pride in the office. Suspended from the ceiling are giant light bulb fittings which give a quiet, illuminating nod to the bright ideas developed by the team to keep Henry Spencer and Sons ahead of the game at the forefront of the lettings market.
With the market currently strong and continuing to grow, the business is now beginning to feel the benefit. Although there are no plans to extend the business further, with the way things are going Ian quotes ‘never say never.’ The properties are predominantly in Sheffield, focusing on S10, S11, S6 postcodes but they do cover other surrounding areas including the east Peak District National Park.
